What is mesotherapy?

The last few years mesotherapy has been one of the most popular non invasive facial and body treatments, worldwide.

The term mesotherapy derives its name from the word “mesoderm”, that is the middle layer of the skin, where the subcutaneous injection of anti-aging and regenerative substances happen. Mesotherapy, due to its beneficial results is called “bio revitalization”.

What are the results of mesotherapy?

Depending on the area of the body that is performed, as well as the infusion of substances which are used, mesotherapy helps to the treatment of the following issues:

  • deep hydration and skin tightening
  • helps to smooth wrinkles (head, neck, chest)
  • healthy and radiant appearance of skin, as well as regeneration
  • improves eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes
  • reduces skin pores and improves acne scars
  • reduces stretch marks
  • cellulite and mild firming action with special firming solution
  • reduces post operative scars and wounds

How do mesotherapy products act?

Natural ageing process causes reduction of collagen production in fibroblasts by approximately 1% each year, as well as its gradual destruction due to factors such as smoking or overexposure to the sun (especially without the use of sunscreen) and stress.

Mesotherapy is the most effective method for immediate penetration of vitamins, amino-acids and pharmaceutical substances beneath the epidermis, the most important part of skin, since it nourishes and supports all the other layers of skin.

Mesotherapy provides peptides, vitamins and hyaluronic acid serum, that apart from hydrating and maintaining adequate hydration, is considered that improves and prevents skin ageing.

At the same time, we also administer regenerative firming agents, such as DMAE and/or substances that help to fight cellulite, such as caffeine or phosphatidylcholine, depending always on the aesthetic result we would like to achieve.

Is it required specific preparation for mesotherapy treatment?

You will discuss in detail with the doctor in order to set up a treatment protocol that meets your expectations. However, there is no need for specific preparation for this minimally invasive technique. You may need to avoid aspirin and other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs for a week prior the procedure. These analgesics may increase the risk of bruising following mesotherapy, increasing thus the total recovery time.

What to expect at your first appointment?

During each session, topical analgesics may be used on the skin. You will have a series of injections, using a special mesotherapy needle (4mm). Alternatively, a machine in the form of pen with 12 tiny needles can be used. These penetrate the skin up to 100 times per second, with adjustable speed and depth 0,25 – 2,5 mm, depending on the area we are treating.

Injections can be made at different depth – from 1 to 4 mm into your skin – depending on the case.

You will probably need several sessions of mesotherapy in order to get the desired result. You will need 5 to 10 repetitive sessions.

The initial treatment intervals are 10 to 14 days. When skin starts to improve, intervals can be increased to 3-4 weeks.

How can mesotherapy be performed?

Needling

Injectable mesotherapy acts exactly to the affected area, through a very thin needle (30G), in order to achieve the anticipated therapeutic effect. The solution is injected directly into the subcutaneous tissue and is specifically formulated, depending on the case.

Pen

It is about a relatively new method, similar to the injectable, but covers all the areas of head/neck/chest in order a solution of equal volume to be injected in adjacent areas that are going to be treated.

With this technique, we use a machine in the form of pen with 12 tiny needles. These penetrate the skin up to 100 times per second, with adjustable speed and depth 0,25 – 2,5 mm, depending on the area we are treating.

With this method, skin damage, pain and recovery time are minimized, as well as any possibility of bruising.

At the same time, we activate collagen and elastin production in skin surface and in combination with the mesotherapy products which are used, we achieve the desired results.

How many sessions are necessary for optimal results?

On average, patients notice improvement after two to three sessions. However, the results may be visible even from the first session, depending on the case, the severity of the problem, age, etc.

An average number of treatments that can be performed is 5-10 with intervals of about 2 weeks. Maintenance sessions may be necessary, depending on the case.

Which are the adverse reactions and potential risks?

The adverse reactions which have been reported include the following:

  • nausea and pain
  • sensitivity
  • swelling
  • itching
  • redness
  • bruising
  • skin discolouration
  • infection
  • scars

Is there any need for recovery time?

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive technique and does not require recovery time. Almost all patients go back immediately to their normal activities.

What is the cost of mesotherapy?

The cost of mesotherapy depends on the type of treatment you are receiving and the number of necessary sessions. In any case, the doctor will inform you in detail regarding the price of mesotherapy, depending on your particular needs.
